We seek a dynamic, committed, purpose driven candidate for our Applications Support Specialist (IT Technology Specialist II) position. The University is under new leadership and as a result, is currently enjoying a surge in the number of its’ incoming students. The IT Specialist II will be an integral member of the technology services team and will report to the Applications Services Manager. This position will have a direct impact on the direction and flow of the of the technology department. The Application Support Specialist position will provide technical support in managing, directing and prioritizing the design, development, testing, and ongoing support of complex applications and programming projects. Provides technical support to the University’s College Recruiter, LogiXML, DegreeWorks, Events Management System, Course Signals, Student Portal, Workflow, Banner Document Management, Blackboard Learning Management system, and the integration of third party systems in developing tactical and strategic products, services, and/or services and operational efficiency. Perform data extractions from University systems to create customer reports and input feeds to a local systems. Works with the department staff and faculty to design, develop, and deploy process improvements. Define system scope/objectives; determine extent of programming/coding required; establishes estimates for completion of projects and implement solutions to the problems. Prepare detailed technical specifications. Review, analyze, create detail technical specifications, instructs directs, and review of the work of project team members to ensure compliance with standards/specifications. Review use cases and other technical documents with IT projects staff to ensure business requirements are adequately reflected in technical planning documents. Develop effective reporting tools for the business departments. Analyze the business department’s activities and trends and compare analysis against eh services and standards and best practices. Also makes recommendations for improvements.

Conduct Business Process analysis of individual analysis of individual VSU departments to understand policies and procedures, understanding university and college data and data schemas and continually assess and improve data quality and work flow.

Maintains regular contact with university administration, faculty, and staff; develops a positive client relationship. Participate in, or provide consultation to committees, user groups, or special IT seminars that support the University’s administrative applications.

Monitor and participate in new programming installations and upgrades to existing applications according to tasks outlined within each project plan. Advise on adaptation of and upgrades to database server software.

Assist in duties assigned by the Deputy Chief of Information Officer or Sr. Applications Support Specialist for IT Administration as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience with business application development with Oracle or JAVA. Comprehensive knowledge Ellucian Banner Enterprise Resource System and/or supporting functional areas such as Human Resources, Finance, Student Services, or Financial Aid. Experience in developing Oracle PL/SQL code. Experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting, Experience in managing or supporting related Banner ancillary software (Workflow, Forms Fusion/IntielliCheck, ePrint, or Appworx). Experience as a project manager, team lead, or task lead. One or more relevant certifications (i.e. Java, Oracle, Oracle PL/SQL Application Developer).

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field highly preferred. Experience working in a higher education environment.
