DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include; managing and overseeing the daily operations of Student Accounts, Cashier and Collections departments. Oversee the posting of semester charges, payments and adjustments to student accounts to include delinquent accounts. Participate in student orientation sessions by conducting presentations about the student accounting operations, cost of attendance, payment plans, billing procedures, etc. Serve as the primary representative in student accounting matters to include the management of the Tuition Payment Plan. Actively participate in registration and orientation sessions and supervise the financial clearance (validation) of students. Ensure that Loans and Promissory note transactions are promptly and accurately recorded into the financial system, BANNER and into the Loan Management System. Manage the methodology to age and write-off delinquent accounts. Oversee the collection, recording and safeguarding of payments received. Receive, verify and process applications and payments for University parking decals and traffic fines. Implement effective administrative policies and procedures for billing, collection and reporting of receivables to maintain state mandated accounts receivables management standards. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual, senior level management reports. Research, recommend and implement continued improvements and best practices in the areas of Student Accounting, Collections, Cashiering and overall internal controls. Identify, recommend and implement staff training and development opportunities.
Bachelor’s degree with significant and progressively responsible experience and knowledge of college and university accounting practices, policies, and procedures; especially those relating to public higher education institutions. Strong leadership, organizational, and supervisory skills with the ability to direct and supervise a professional and diverse staff in higher education accounting issues and the achievement of university and departmental goals and objectives. Working knowledge and experience with Commonwealth of Virginia accounts receivables management standards, to include loan fund management, collection methods, and reporting requirements. Experience interpreting, developing, applying and implementing complex fiscal policies and procedures and experience in gathering, analyzing, and reporting complex financial data. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to provide, measure and ensure exceptional service to customer. Demonstrated ability to successfully implement projects and manage progressive responsibilities in accounting environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively influence and guide others towards the University’s commitment to provide a transformative experience for our students. Experience using automated accounting systems. Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience working at a public institution of higher education in Virginia is highly desirable. Experience as a senior manager or supervisor in a student accounting department. Master’s Degree in Business or related degree preferred. Professional Certification, such as CPA is desirable.
