Job Specs POSITION SUMMARY
Primary function is to assist the Director in the management of the Respiratory Care Department. Responsibilities include: assist in development of departmental goals and objectives; develop policies, procedures, and standards of performance; supervise staff and manage personnel related matters; ensure the continued growth of employees through continuing education; review and evaluate new equipment for purchase; prepare managerial reports for director’s approval and monitor of prescribed therapies for appropriateness; assume responsibilities of director during absences of director.
Requires a knowledge of anatomy, physiology, micro-biology, pulmonary physics, pulmonary pathophysiology, advanced respiratory care, mathematics, blood gas chemistry, and pharmacology at a level generally acquired through completion of an approved two year program in Respiratory Therapy in order to provide clinical and administrative direction to the department.
Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist with 3-5 years managerial experience
Must be licensed by the Board of Medicine- Department of Health Regulatory Board, Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapy Practitioner
Requires a comprehensive understanding of all department systems and equipment such as: mechanical ventilators, IPPB equipment, jet aerosol equipment, oxygen therapy and all external regulations impacting Respiratory Care as well as high levels of proficiency in providing Respiratory Care at a level generally acquired during 3-5 years of progressively more responsible experience in a hospital setting.
Must maintain current CPR, PALS and NALS certification
Three to five years of NICU and PICU experience preferred.
