Current Need

McKesson Medical-Surgical is seeking an Accounting Manager located in Richmond, VA. The Accounting Manager will provide leadership, direction and execution of the accounting and reporting requirements of the Transportation, Customer/GPO Fee, Core Revenue areas.

This role will partner with McKesson Financial Center’s Customer Rebates team, Transportation Ops and Logistics teams, and Finance leadership as well as others to provide useful and accurate financial information in accordance with GAAP, by being the accounting liaison for the responsible areas of Core Accounting This individual will have leadership responsibilities for the Core Accounting team and report to the Director.

The Accounting Manager oversees all accounting activities including the close process, reconciliations, income statement analysis and related internal controls for related area of responsibility. The Manager will ensure that relevant financial information is accurately reflected in the financial statements and communicated effectively with senior management. This position will partner with business owners to perform analysis and research to ensure accurate accounting and preparation of summary level analytics and applicable reporting for senior leadership.

The Manager will supervise, coach and develop a team of 2-5 accounting staff. Responsibilities will include leading the team improve processes by identifying and implementing efficiency opportunities. The position will work closely with senior management to develop and maintain a system of internal controls, in their area of responsibility, necessary to ensure the highest Controllership standards.


  • Manageall accounting activities related to Transportation, Customer Fees, andRevenue , including general ledger accounting, variance analysis andbalance sheet account reconciliation

  • Responsible for completion of executive level reporting to beshared with senior management and executive leadership across multiple McKessonorganizations

  • Responsible for working on complexproblems/projects where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluationof various factors, developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criterionfor obtaining results

  • Lead team to resolve various accounting/financial issues for clients from a variety of differentdepartments and levels

  • Provides direct supervision to exempt employees and/or skillednonexempt employees (e.g., accountants, nonexempt accounting support, providingdirection to employees according to established policies and managementguidance.

  • Directresponsibility for performance and development of accounting staff tolearn, grow and be successful in roles

  • Partnerwith the business to understand the underlying business operations andprocesses to augment the integrity of financial transactions

  • Responsiblefor the financial statement closing process and reporting requirements

  • Providedecision support, financial analysis, internal control guidance and otherassistance to key stakeholders

  • Researchand integration of existing and developing GAAP and statutory reporting toensure Company compliance with authoritative and regulatory requirements

  • Developand monitor policies and procedures concerning accounting, including theCompany’s internal control structure and Sarbanes-Oxley required testing,and facilitate completion of audit requirements

  • Review and understand revenuestreams and impact of changes to accounting

  • Take part in revenue recognition discussions and providesuggestions where appropriate

  • Complete variance commentary and present results to managementmonthly

  • Participatein forecasting and budgeting activities for the business unit and theaccounting department

  • Participatein the development and implementation of company and departmentobjectives, and align, set and monitor career and incentive performancegoals for the team

  • Identifyprocess improvement opportunities and lead improvement projects

Position Description/General Job Family Information

Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing the control of the budget. Manages the activities of the financial analyst staff. Reviews and approves recommendations for financial planning and control. Monitors division and department adherence to approved budget.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3 years of financial or accounting experience and demonstrated leadership skills

Critical Skills

  • Progressiveaccounting experience in a mid to large sized location

  • Complex accrual accountingexperience

  • People managementand performance management experience

  • Ability to summarize findings in to actionableformat

  • Experience withvariance analysis

  • IntermediateExcel (v-lookups, pivot tables)

Preferred Skills

  • Access/SQL preferred

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment on complex issues

  • A strong aptitude for research and analysis as well as ability topresent results to various levels

  • Strong client-service orientation to work acrossseveral departments including McKesson Financial Center Customer Rebates, FP&A, IT, and UpperManagement

  • Prior experience in revenue recognition highlypreferred


  • 4-year degree in finance or related field or equivalent experience
