Virginia Premier Health Plan Business Analyst III in Richmond, Virginia
Supports corporate, plan-level, and departmental strategies and goals by effectively applying both business knowledge and technical expertise to support business initiatives and solve business problems. The level III Medical Economics Analyst is also responsible for researching, extracting, modeling, manipulating, compiling, analyzing, evaluating and validating financial and clinical statistical data using advanced statistical, risk and financial analytical skills in order to identify and quantify impacts to medical costs trends and contract portfolio profitability. This position is responsible for developing an extensive expertise in the corporate data systems. Responsible for gathering requirements, performing analysis, supporting the development and testing of processes, and understanding and documenting the applications, data, and associated technologies for supported areas.
Develops and implements data-driven solutions to meet business requirements by producing analytics, reports, and data sets across a variety of subject matters primarily related to, but not limited to, medical and financial management, network management, contracting, lines of business / state contract management and leadership strategy inquiries.
Develop and distribute reports related to multiple product lines and business units as assigned
Document applications for use in training, maintenance, and department procedures
Design and maintain data structures and systems
Assist in the training and growth of new analysts, as well as act as project lead on requested analyses
Ability to create population-based medical cost analyses starting with concepts and ending with completion and deployment/presentation.
Perform complex queries. Apply extensive understanding of database tables, relations, data types and values
Assist in development of benchmark reports
Assist in the analysis and presentation of business opportunities
Participate in development and analysis teams with other managers (including managers of other organizations)
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors Degree in Business, Health Administration, Mathematics, Information Systems, or related field
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS
Knowledge of a structured query language, such as Microsoft Access, TSQL, PL/SQL, SPSS or SAS
Highly analytical thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes
Performs complex data analysis using traditional and non-traditional statistical methods
Ability to analyze complex problems and develop multiple workable solutions
Considered an expert in databases / SQL and OLAP architecture
Demonstrates an active interest in enhancing current skills and learning new ones; applies advanced functional or technical knowledge to do his or her job at a high level of accomplishment
Chooses appropriate tools or technology for tasks; improves or redesigns processes, tools, or technologies to determine applicability
Highly skilled in writing queries that join multiple data sources and complex data manipulation
The candidate must have very good communication and organizational skills
Gain an understanding of company data flow, state and federal reporting and different departmental duties.
Skill in speaking in front of small to medium audiences when necessary.
Coaches others; Consistently shares expertise with others, teaching skills and explaining concepts
Leads analytical team. May lead multi-functional teams.
In depth knowledge of more than one corporate unit and recognize problems and propose solutions
In-depth ability to identify new sources of revenue loss corporate wide
Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting complex problems
Required: Minimum 3+ years of experience in data analysis and/or report development
Preferred: Minimum 3+ years of experience in healthcare, business analysis or application development/implementation
Preferred: Graduate degree in Business, Health Administration, Mathematics, or Public Health
Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
