McGuireWoods LLP Business Development Manager - Government Affairs in Richmond, Virginia

McGuireWoods Consulting (MWC) has an opportunity for a self-driven leader to join its team as a Business Development Manager in our Richmond, VA office. The role interfaces directly with McGuireWoods Consulting and McGuireWoods LLP professionals to identify and realize opportunities. The Business Development Manager will collaborate with the marketing and business development team to fully engage in all aspects of the strategic marketing and business development initiatives of key practices, industry teams, client teams and specialty teams they support.

Founded in 1998, McGuireWoods Consulting is a full-service public affairs firm offering government relations, advocacy and infrastructure and economic development services. MWC is a subsidiary of the McGuireWoods law firm with offices in seven state capitals and Washington DC. MWC is ranked in the Top 20 of The National Law Journal's "The Influence 50," an annual report of the top public affairs firms in Washington, D.C.

Collaborate with leadership to play an integral role in developing strategy for and driving business development priorities for departments/ groups including:

  • Client expansion including pitch opportunities, client meetings and RFPs

  • Client relationship management including key client identification, business development plans and monitoring progress

  • Visibility including developing strategies to raise the profile and brand recognition through digital media as well as conferences/seminars, webinars and receptions

  • Budget management including utilizing best practices to maximize ROI on marketing spend

  • Experience and Collateral Management including proposal and knowledge management, win/loss ratios, key messaging and representative materials

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities; makes decisions and adapts to changing work environments in-house and for our clients

  • Outstanding project management skills with the ability to execute strategies through specific project teams of consultants and staff alike

  • Proven ability to connect and build relationships across disciplines and geographies

  • Self-starter with the discipline required to balance long-term strategic vision with effective day-to-day implementation of strategy

  • Technology-savvy; knowledge of relevant, existing software and ability to learn new programs

  • Strong manager who can direct, coach, motivate and inspire people to work hard on identified priorities

  • A minimum of five years of experience in marketing, business and practice development, or a related field; familiarity with competitive landscape challenging major national law firms or professional services firm

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree
